Privacy Policy for Lockout

Last updated: August 6, 2026
Applies to the Lockout family of apps: Lockout (child app), Lockout Parent, and Lockout Teacher.

Plain-language summary. Lockout helps parents and guardians encourage study time on a child's device. Parents create the account and control the settings; the child's app enforces them. We collect only what the app needs to work. We do not show ads, we do not sell anyone's data, and we do not use children's data to build advertising profiles. This page explains, in full, what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

This Privacy Policy describes how Brighter Mind Apps LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Lockout apps and related services (together, the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Who this Service is for, and who controls the data

Lockout is a parental-control and study-enforcement tool. It is designed to be set up and controlled by a parent, guardian, or (for classroom features) a teacher — the "Account Holder" — and used on a device belonging to a child under that person's care.

The Account Holder decides what information about a child is entered into the Service, and directs how the Service is used on the child's device. We act as a service provider carrying out those instructions. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children except as configured and directed by the Account Holder for the purpose of operating the Service on the child's device.

2. Information we collect

Account information (parents and teachers)

Child profile information (entered by the Account Holder)

Device and enforcement information

Accessibility Service — what it does and does not do

On Android, the child app uses an Accessibility Service to enforce study lockouts. This is a sensitive permission, so we want to be precise about it.

Classroom information (Lockout Teacher)

Payment information

Premium features are offered through a subscription. Payments are processed by Google Play Billing, and subscription status is managed with the help of RevenueCat, a subscription-management provider.

3. How we use information

AI-generated study content

Some study passages can be generated with the help of an AI service (the Anthropic Claude API). The prompts we send to generate this content describe only a topic and an approximate grade or difficulty level (for example, "a short reading passage about volcanoes at a third-grade level"). We do not include a child's name, PIN, contacts, or any other personal information in these prompts. Generated content is reviewed before it is made available.

4. What we do NOT do

5. How information is shared

We share information only with the service providers that make the app work, and only as needed:

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of users, or in connection with a business transfer (for example, if the Service is acquired), in which case we will require the recipient to honor this Policy.

6. Children's privacy

Lockout is a tool for parents and guardians to manage a child's device. Because the Service is used on children's devices, we take particular care:

If you believe a child's information has been provided to us in a way that a parent or guardian did not intend, please contact us and we will address it promptly, including deleting the information where appropriate.

7. Data retention and deletion

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect information, including encrypted connections, hashed PINs and passwords, and server-side rules that restrict who can read or change data. For example, sensitive status such as a premium subscription flag can only be set by a validated server process, not by any app on a device. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to correct issues promptly if they arise.

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, and to withdraw consent. Account Holders can review and change most information directly in the app. To make a request that you cannot complete in the app, contact us at the email below. We honor rights provided under applicable laws, including, where they apply, the EU/UK GDPR and U.S. state privacy laws.

10. International users

The Service is operated using Google Cloud/Firebase infrastructure and may process and store information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be processed in these locations.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
